Cult Classic??

O.k. Cavutto, I see your Astronomy 'picture of the day'. And I raise you a 'question of the day'.
Because I have so many questions and am too lazy to seek out answers, I would rather ask everyone here in hopes of just getting an answer.

movies... What makes a "Cult Classic" a cult classic? I began to wonder because I am watching Twilight Zone the movie, which made me think of Creepshow. Would either be considered a Cult Classic??

I've been trying to come up with an educated response all morning. It's hard to say really. I guess it's when a movie doesn't do well at mainstream box offices, yet is well received by pop culture, or has higher DVD sales. I think Napolean Dynamite is the latest example of this.

I do feel though, that new cult classics aren't as 'culty' as old cult classics. Two-Lane Blacktop is a cult classic by true definition because only a select group has ever heard of it, and no one is walking around with T-shirts with James Taylor's face on it. (Yes, James Taylor the singer tried his hand at acting.). I don't know. You pose a good good question. You should make this a daily routine.

When I think of Cult Classic, I think of Rocky Horror Picture Show. What do you think?

I loved 'Two Lane Blacktop'!  Did James Taylor even have a line in that?  I love how the premise is a cross country race but the movie ends when they get to Las Vegas with no explanation.  Sorry if I spoiled it for everyone.  There was really nothing to spoil anyways.

I think a 'cult classic' would be defined as an esoteric film that is on the verge of deification by a loyal group of devoted fans.  That is, until everone else finds out about it.
